French sovereign risk is back in the spotlight, with Moody's keeping France on a negative outlook as debt hovers near 119% of GDP and bond yields hit multi decade highs. The three stocks highlighted next are only a starter set. Crédit Agricole (ENXTPA:ACA)

Crédit Agricole is one of the key French banks in this screener, because its large home market balance sheet and bond holdings tie closely into sovereign funding conditions. Its mix of retail banking, insurance and asset management gives investors a broad view on domestic financial risk.

Crédit Agricole runs a wide retail and corporate banking, insurance and investment services platform. Asset Gathering and Large Customers generate about €8.1b and €8.7b of revenue, and French and international retail plus specialised financial services add roughly €10.0b. The group's market value is about €44.7b.

The plan to allocate €500m of IT spending over three years and inject €150m into a dedicated AI and data company is intended to industrialize AI across Crédit Agricole, which could increase productivity and support earnings through a leaner cost base.

What happens to margins if one quiet pressure on funding costs and pricing power shifts faster than current plans assume?

If that funding squeeze accelerates, read the full narrative for Crédit Agricole to see how Crédit Agricole's AI push, balance sheet mix and earnings power could decouple.ENXTPA:ACA Earnings & Revenue History as at Oct 2026

COFACE (ENXTPA:COFA)

COFACE is a French trade credit insurer whose underwriting and funding costs tie directly into domestic sovereign risk. Its growing information and services arm offers a different way to get paid for assessing that same credit stress worldwide.

COFACE provides trade credit insurance, surety, factoring and credit risk information tools for businesses worldwide, generating about €547 million from Mediterranean and Africa, €374 million from Northern Europe and €428 million from Western Europe and Africa, and carries a market value near €2.3 billion.

Story Continues

The continued investment in Coface business information venture and rapid growth in third party debt collection, with business information revenue growing at double digits and debt collection rising around 32 to 40% in early 2026, points to an expanding services mix that can contribute a larger share of group revenue and earnings.

What really matters is how one unseen pressure on funding and loss trends eventually shapes the balance between those service ambitions and core underwriting profits.

That pressure point is exactly where COFACE could surprise you, so read the full narrative for COFACE to see how its services push might be masking a very different earnings path.ENXTPA:COFA Earnings & Revenue History as at Oct 2026

AXA (ENXTPA:CS)

Strong momentum in digitalization, AI adoption and streamlined direct distribution, including the wider rollout of AI ready applications and direct platforms such as Prima and Direct Assurance, is described as a driver for improving customer acquisition, addressing more price sensitive and underserved segments and potentially supporting revenue growth and net margins for AXA.
